Go Greek!

       As sorority recruitment approaches us..

we decided to share with you

Ashley Weaver's

recruitment experience!

"Sharing my story with you is harder than I ever thought it would be. I could sit here for days, describing (in-detail) every embarrassing/comical moment, or awe-inspiring encounter I’ve had with the friends I’ve made in Chi Omega. But that would probably turn into a novel, and let’s face it: none of you have time to read a novel, especially one written by me! However, in this short blog I hope to convey to you why I have no doubt that choosing Chi Omega has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my entire life. Arguably, THE best decision.

The idea of sorority recruitment and even college in general gave me the worst/best feeling in the entire world. One filled with great anticipation and curiosity, but one that also included that bitter-sweetness of leaving home for the first time. My sister and a few family members had joined sororities, but other than the fact that I saw some weird Greek Letters on all of their T-shirts and the showers of gifts they received when they joined – I knew absolutely nothing about Greek Life.

So here I am, knowing nothing about Greek Life, being a lost and clueless freshman - headed down sorority girl lane…

September 10, 2010 I put on my cute khaki shorts and Greek Life T-shirt and I was ready. Ready to find the chapter that best fit me” and the “sisters” I just knew I was meant to have for a lifetime. (Hence the sarcasm in my voice at this point).  I was apprehensive about the whole process and my emotions went haywire.

-All these girls were charming in their own individual way.
-All the houses looked the same (literally!) and were decorated nicely.
-ALL the chapters had something wonderful to offer me.

And that’s where it got difficult.

I absolutely loved getting to know the girls from each house. I loved hearing about their community involvement and what their sisterhood was all about. I loved all of these unique chapters!

But…
There was just something special about that second house on Village Circle.

Something about their striking cardinal and straw colors.

Something about those cute but sometimes creepy owls (speaking of owls, they are EVERYWHERE!)

There is something about Chi Omega… Something that I still cannot explain today. This is going to sound beyond cheesy, but it gave me that thrilling “first date” butterfly feeling. A feeling I couldn’t describe in words, but one that just felt, right.

These girls were real, and I loved it. They displayed high moral character, cared about their grades, had a social life, and their desire for true sisterhood was slightly contagious. It was one that didn’t need an explanation; I could see it through their interactions with one another. They weren’t all the same, but each and every one of them brought diversity to their chapter. They represented the type of person I wanted to be, and still aspire to be today.

Getting to know the ladies of the Epsilon Delta chapter of Chi Omega - just in that one week of formal recruitment - already had me wanting to become a better leader, a better friend, and a better person. So let me tell you guys something, I found the chapter that “best fit me” and the “sisters” I just knew I was meant to have for a lifetime and so much more. I’ve found myself with friends who I can trust with anything, in leadership positions that I’ve always dreamed of holding and with sisters whom I truly care about, as if they were my own family.

For many people, college is the most exciting, terrifying, frightening, stressful, confusing, and absolutely incredible time period of their lives. For me, it has been more than absolutely incredible. It has been perfect. And I owe all of that to Southern Miss and my Chi Omega Sisters."

CHI OMEGA
….Values that stand the test of time, and sisters that make a difference.”

Ashley Weaver

Chi Omega's love philanthropies

On March 21 Chi Omega participated in Tri Delta's cheerleading competition.

All of the sororities and fraternities participated in this event in support of Tri Delta's philanthropy  called triple play which helps them raise money for St. Jude.

The cheerleaders that participated in triple plays cheer competition practiced for several weeks in advance.

The cheerleaders hard work really paid off when the judges announced that…

Chi Omega won first place in the competition.

Another philanthropy event that Chi Omega participated in was Pi Kappa Phi's disability dance!

Chi Omega was really happy that we were able to attend. This was definitely a moving experience for many members of Chi O.

Chi Omega wants to wish Kappa Sig and Phi Mu good luck this weekend with their philanthropies!

We will see you there!
